January Wrap 2014

January was a slow reading month for me. Only managed to read five books towards my now 80 book challenge for 2014. Changed my goal because according to Goodreads I was four behind when my goal was set to 100.

Hopefully I can keep on track. But let's take a look back at my books for January.
1. Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
Hearing so much love for this,I was scared to read it but I loved every minute. 5/5 stars
2. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Mass
Again heard amazing reviews. 5/5 stars
3. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak 5/5 stars
4. Abigail and Her Pet Zombie by Marie F. Crow 5/5 stars
5. The Ugly Duckling by Christian Hans Anderson 4/5 stars

That's all for January
Let me know what books you read in January or if you read any of the ones I read.

Happy Reading, Ashley

My Thoughts:
This book is amazing!!! How do I get all my thoughts out? I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Calaena is a kickass female lead. I loved her point of view. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

I really loved Throne of Glass because it reminded me of Alanna by Tamora Pierce. Alanna and Celaena are both women fighting to do the same heroic acts of men.

"It's the year 2044, and the real world is an ugly place.

Like most of humanity, Wade Watts escapes his grim surroundings by spending his waking hours jacked into the OASIS, a sprawling virtual utopia that lets you be anything you want to be, a place where you can live and play and fall in love on any of ten thousand planets.

And like most of humanity, Wade dreams of being the one to discover the ultimate lottery ticket that lies concealed within this virtual world. For somewhere inside this giant networked playground, OASIS creator James Halliday has hidden a series of fiendish puzzles that will yield massive fortune--and remarkable power--to whoever can unlock them.

For years, millions have struggled fruitlessly to attain this prize, knowing only that Halliday's riddles are based in the pop culture he loved--that of the late twentieth century. And for years, millions have found in this quest another means of escape, retreating into happy, obsessive study of Halliday's icons. Like many of his contemporaries, Wade is as comfortable debating the finer points of John Hughes's oeuvre, playing Pac-Man, or reciting Devo lyrics as he is scrounging power to run his OASIS rig.

And then Wade stumbles upon the first puzzle.

Suddenly the whole world is watching, and thousands of competitors join the hunt--among them certain powerful players who are willing to commit very real murder to beat Wade to this prize. Now the only way for Wade to survive and preserve everything he knows is to win. But to do so, he may have to leave behind his oh-so-perfect virtual existence and face up to life--and love--in the real world he's always been so desperate to escape.

A world at stake.
A quest for the ultimate prize.
Are you ready?"

My Thoughts:
Having heard so much hyper from Booktubers on Ready Player One. I wasn't sure how I would take to it. Ernest Clone wrote one neck of a fast paced action story. I could understand most of the 80s references, even though I was born in the late 80s. This story has me wanting to find an old Nintendo game console and play again like when I was a kid.

If you've been on the fence about this one. Take my advice and pick it up. Give to the videogamer in your life.

5/5 stars!!!!!

"Ambrose Young was beautiful. He was tall and muscular, with hair that touched his shoulders and eyes that burned right through you. The kind of beautiful that graced the covers of romance novels, and Fern Taylor would know. She'd been reading them since she was thirteen. But maybe because he was so beautiful he was never someone Fern thought she could have...until he wasn't beautiful anymore.

Making Faces is the story of a small town where five young men go off to war, and only one comes back. It is the story of loss. Collective loss, individual loss, loss of beauty, loss of life, loss of identity. It is the tale of one girl's love for a broken boy, and a wounded warrior's love for an unremarkable girl. This is a story of friendship that overcomes heartache, heroism that defies the common definitions, and a modern tale of Beauty and the Beast, where we discover that there is a little beauty and a little beast in all of us."

-Information from Goodreads.com

My Thoughts:
Making Faces is a roller coaster of emotions. Happy, sad, angry, love, joy, and death. Never have I had a book make me cry and laugh on the same page. I loved that Making Faces was set in Pennsylvania. I loved Fern and Ambrose. Their story is something that could be realistic. I will definitely reading more from Amy Harmon.

Making Faces is one of those stories that will stay with you after reading.

5/5 stars, for Hercules!!

My Thoughts:
Trying to put into words on how this book was. I sorta guessed something that plays a big part of the plot. Hopeless takes you on a roller coaster of emotions. I did love Sky and Holder.

Will be reading more from Colleen in the future.

In superbly crafted writing that burns with intensity, award-winning author Markus Zusak, author of I Am the Messenger, has given us one of the most enduring stories of our time."

My Thoughts:
The Book Thief is an sad tale told by none other than Death. I had originally tried reading this back in January of 2013. But some personal issues I had experienced put me off. I received this book for Christmas. I started it right away. I know some that read this was brought to tears. It is a sad story. I myself did not cry. The Book Thief did touch my heart. It is a reminder of a part of the world's history. Hitler's reign in the 1940s was a tragic time to live through no matter who you were.

I would recommend this to anyone who hasn't read this yet.

Even though it's sad you can't put the book down.
