November/December Update

Hello My Follow Readers, I know I haven't updated since October. Took a break for a while. I also participated in NaNoWriMo, (National Novel Writing Month). This was my second year and my first year of winning. It was really awesome and I plan on doing it again in 2013. I will be better prepared for next year. My story for this time was just a random idea that popped into my head. Although I know that's what NaNoWriMo is all about. I do want a better idea of what to write next time around. I have also been reading if you are my friend on Goodreads, you know that. I'm currently re-reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling and re-reading Let It Snow by various authors.

I will be posting my top 12 of 2012, sometime next week. I hope everyone has a safe and fun holiday. I'm excited because I asked for a Kindle Fire HD!! I will still by books, because I want a big collection!!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS, HAPPY READING, Hope you get some awesome books,
Ashley

October Update

Hello My Fellow Readers, I know I don't post as much as I should. Or anything besides reviews. I'm not sure what else to post on here. If you have any ideas please let me know!! My laptop crashed on me in May. So I haven't been able to make videos on YouTube anymore. So this will be strictly written reviews, book hauls and things of that nature.

In the summertime I had my rounds of reading like crazy and the dreaded reading funks. As it is now my favorite time of year Fall. I might be do more reading. But family and life in general and my obsession with my TV shows, which are back on. Tend to get in the way of my reading. The shows I'm currently watching are: CSI, The Big Bang Theory and Ghost Adventures. Of course I do watch The Bold and The Beautiful everyday (yes I love soap operas!!)....

With it being October and Halloween is this month!! I will be trying to read more seasonal books this month. What books do you love to read around this time of year? If you have any recommendations, please don't hesitate to say so.

The new little addition to the household, her name is Sofia. Her and my other cat Fiona are slowly making friends. As well as Sofia and the dog, Sadie.

Happy Reading, Ashley

But there's something odd about Jay's new town. Why does everyone have lawn gnomes in front of their homes? And why is everyone afraid to go outside at night? The lawn gnomes don't come to life at night-do they? Jay is about to learn that mischief can quickly turn to horror."

-Information from Goodreads.com

My Thoughts:
R.L. Stine has a way of making the simplest of objects terrifying. In Planet Of The Lawn Gnomes, we meet Jay. He and his family move to this strange neighborhood, where everyone has a lawn gnome in their yards. Jay quickly realizes something is strange about these lawn gnomes. He doesn’t have a clue of how right he is.

R.L.Stine keeps you guessing until the very end. I still find myself wondering if Jay is who he believes he is or if he’s something else. And did he really live where he thought?

By the way I’m never going to look at a lawn gnome the same way ever again!!

"BIG GIRLS DON'T CRY...
THEY GET EVEN.

Lillia has never had any problems dealing with boys who like her. Not until this summer, when one went too far. No way will she let the same thing happen to her little sister.

Kat is tired of the rumours, the insults, the cruel jokes. It all goes back to one person– her ex-best friend– and she's ready to make her pay.

Four years ago, Mary left Jar Island because of a boy. But she's not the same girl anymore. And she's ready to prove it to him.

Three very different girls who want the same thing: sweet, sweet revenge. And they won't stop until they each had a taste."

-Information from Goodreads.com

My Thoughts:

This is my first time reading both of Jenny Han's and Siobhan Vivian's writing. I have to say I was sucked into the story from the start.

This is the classic tale of mean girls revenge. However these mean girls are from the serepate groups of their high school. There's the popular girl in Lillia, the bad girl Kat and the "new girl" Mary. After each having issues they can't seem to deal with the band together to take down those who have wronged them in the past.

But where this story ends will leaving you scratching your heads. I hope there will be a second book. To see where these girls have ended up.If they didn't get caught and if they became friends after everything.

I have since learned there is not just a second book but a third as well!!

5/5 stars. Happy Reading, Ashley

My Thoughts:
Shadow Of The Blood Moon is the sequel to Ties Of The Blood Moon which I loved. So I had very high hopes for the sequel. I wasn’t disappointed in the slightest. Robin brought everything I loved from the first one and even more to the second book. There were so many twists and turns. My head is still spinning from the ending. I don’t think I can’t wait to long for the third installment in this series. I need to know what becomes of Genevieve, William, and everyone else.

I absolutely loved this book. This is an awesome vampire, werewolves supernatural story. I am glad to have been given a chance to review it. Looking for to book number three!!!

So if you love action, romance, vampires, werewolves and a leading female character not afraid to kick some butt. Then you need to pick up this series!!

Plus the covers are amazing!! My favorite has to be the cover for Shadows Of The Blood Moon.

Robin, why did you have torture me with an ending like that?

(Book one in The ELE Series)

This new adventure can send her world crashing down around her. The question is: Can Willow survive the fall?

From the authors of Night Marchers comes a new apocalyptic series with a paranormal twist."

-Information from Goodreads.com

My Thoughts:
Project ELE is told from the point of view of fifteen year old Willow Mosby. A teenage girl living in a world where this super virus has infected most of the population. There was a cure known as Counteractive Universal Recovery Elixir. Which helped for a few years. Will and her family await protection in the shelter for the next 3 years. While the virus is trying to be killed off by removing the patches over the sky and letting the earth heat.

However after the test Willow and her father are the only ones allowed entrance. So begins their lives in the underground shelter. They grow accustom to life in the shelter. Willow even makes friends with the shy Claire, Connor, and Alec. The three discover a hideaway place in the shelter. And its there that weird things start happening to them. They release there are secrets about the testing. Things quickly spiral down. Willow has to make a choice. How the book ended is something I didn’t see coming.

I really loved the characters. I felt like they were my best friends. I felt what they were going through. Willow is strong and has her moments of being vulnerable.

I can really see something like this being a reality someday.

For those of you who loved The Hunger Games, Delirium, Matched, Gone series. Then you should check this out.

Paranormals have been a hit and miss with me lately. So I was a bit hesitant to read Awaken Me. However when I started I couldn’t stop. There is something about the world Emily has created in Awaken Me. The book came to live. I truly loved this take on vampires, werewolves, and other paranormal creatures. I loved Aimee, she was vulnerable at times, but grew into a kick ass fighting machine! I loved Alec too, is loyalty and love to her is so amazing. Considering they were apart for 6 years!! I cannot wait to get Capture Me for review!!

If you are a fan of vampires, werewolves, and just paranormal stories. Then this is the book for you. It has action, drama, romance, and oh yeah a girl that kick some ass!!

Confessions Of An Angry Girl by Louise Rozett

Confessions Of An Angry Girl by Louise Rozett
 Released: August 28th 2012
 Publisher: Harlequin Teen
 Series:Confessions, Book One
 Page Amount: 272, US Paperback
 Source: NetGalley

"Rose Zarelli, self-proclaimed word geek and angry girl, has some confessions to make…1. I'm livid all the time. Why? My dad died. My mom barely talks. My brother abandoned us. I think I'm allowed to be irate, don't you?

2. I make people furious regularly. Want an example? I kissed Jamie Forta, a badass guy who might be dating a cheerleader. She is now enraged and out for blood. Mine.

3. High school might as well be Mars. My best friend has been replaced by an alien, and I see red all the time. (Mars is red and "seeing red" means being angry—get it?)

Here are some other vocab words that describe my life: Inadequate. Insufferable. Intolerable.

(Don't know what they mean? Look them up yourself.)
(Sorry. That was rude.)" - Information from Goodreads.com

My Thoughts:
Rose Zarelli is dealing the horrible loss of father and trying to understand the rules of high school. Rose feels that she is older than a freshman. Because she doesn't play the games her friends are or wanting to drink at a high school party. Her life at Union High soon becomes a living nightmare. Because she kissed the head cheerleaders boyfriend. Things quickly spirally out of control. After an almost fight with Regina. And not talking to her best friend for weeks on end.Something happens that makes Rose want to get back at Regina.

I really loved this contemporary read! What an awesome debut for 2012. Looking forward to the sequel!!

5/5 stars, Happy Reading, Ashley

"Everyone knows that Chelsea Knot can't keep a secret

Until now. Because the last secret she shared turned her into a social outcast—and nearly got someone killed.

Now Chelsea has taken a vow of silence—to learn to keep her mouth shut, and to stop hurting anyone else. And if she thinks keeping secrets is hard, not speaking up when she's ignored, ridiculed and even attacked is worse.

But there's strength in silence, and in the new friends who are, shockingly, coming her way—people she never noticed before; a boy she might even fall for. If only her new friends can forgive what she's done. If only she can forgive herself." -Information from Goodreads.com

My Thoughts:
Chelsea Knot has always been the “gossiping queen” of Grand Lake high school. Her best friend Kristen’s New Years’ Eve party changes everything about Chelsea’s life. Her gossiping ways leaves someone fighting for his life. Upon the attack of Noah Beckett. Chelsea decides to take a vow of silence. During the no talking phase. She makes friends with Asha. Finds that telling the truth was the right thing do to. Even if she lost her so called friends and realizes all the changes she went through. Her life is even better than before

I feel Speechless has taught me the power of our words. Its what we say or don’t say that affects everything and everyone around us.

I really loved this story and the characters!!! I will be reading of Hannah’s work in the future.

I just wish to know what becomes of everyone.

"Since the car crash that took her father’s life three years ago, Emma’s life has been a freaky — and unending — lesson in caution. Surviving “accidents” has taken priority over being a normal seventeen-year-old, so Emma spends her days taking pictures of life instead of living it. Falling in love with a boy was never part of the plan. Falling for a reaper who makes her chest ache and her head spin? Not an option.

It’s not easy being dead, especially for a reaper in love with a girl fate has put on his list not once, but twice. Finn’s fellow reapers give him hell about spending time with Emma, but Finn couldn’t let her die before, and he’s not about to let her die now. He will protect the girl he loves from the evil he accidentally unleashed, even if it means sacrificing the only thing he has left…his soul."

-Information from Goodreads.com

My Thoughts:
Inbetween was an amazing touching story. About Emma whose live has been turn upside down for the past years. Since the car accident that took her father's life. There have been a lot of freaky accidents almost costing Emma her life. Little does she know she has an guardian of sorta’s trying to make sure she is protected. Finn a reaper who isn’t supposed to be near Emma is risking everything to keep her save from the evil soul Maeve. Because its Finn’s fault Maeve is causing all the chaos to Emma.

You are in for a ride with this one. There is of twists and turns. I’m still in awe of the ending and that true love can over come anything, even death!!

I really loved this story and want the sequel in my hands right now!!

Castle Waiting Vol. 1 by Linda Medley

Castle Waiting, Vol.1 by Linda Medley
Released: June 17th 2006
Publisher: Fantagraphics Books
Series: Castle Waiting Omnibus Collection,Book One
Page Amount: 457, US Hardcover Edition
Source: Library

"Castle Waiting graphic novel tells the story of an isolated, abandoned castle, and the eccentric inhabitants who bring it back to life. A fable for modern times, Castle Waiting is a fairy tale that's not about rescuing the princess, saving the kingdom, or fighting the ultimate war between Good and Evil, but about being a hero in your own home.

The opening story, "The Brambly Hedge," tells the origin of the castle itself, which is abandoned by its princess in a comic twist on "Sleeping Beauty" when she rides off into the sunset with her Prince Charming. The castle becomes a refuge for misfits, outcasts, and others seeking sanctuary, playing host to a lively and colorful cast of characters that inhabits the subsequent stories, including a talking anthropomorphic horse, a mysteriously pregnant Lady on the run, and a bearded nun." -Information from Goodreads.com

My Thoughts:
This is an interesting take on the story of Sleeping Beauty. With some other colorful stories. This is the second graphic novel I read. I really did like the story. And I'm glad  I picked it up. I might carry on with the series.

Thanks to Misty at The Book Rat, for recommending this one.

Series: Seraphina, Book One
Page Amount: 467, US Hardcover Edition

"Four decades of peace have done little to ease the mistrust between humans and dragons in the kingdom of Goredd. Folding themselves into human shape, dragons attend court as ambassadors, and lend their rational, mathematical minds to universities as scholars and teachers. As the treaty's anniversary draws near, however, tensions are high.

Seraphina Dombegh has reason to fear both sides. An unusually gifted musician, she joins the court just as a member of the royal family is murdered—in suspiciously draconian fashion. Seraphina is drawn into the investigation, partnering with the captain of the Queen's Guard, the dangerously perceptive Prince Lucian Kiggs. While they begin to uncover hints of a sinister plot to destroy the peace, Seraphina struggles to protect her own secret, the secret behind her musical gift, one so terrible that its discovery could mean her very life.

In her exquisitely written fantasy debut, Rachel Hartman creates a rich, complex, and utterly original world. Seraphina's tortuous journey to self-acceptance is one readers will remember long after they've turned the final page."
-Information from Goodreads.com

My Thoughts:
Not going to lie, I wasn't in love with this one at first. The medieval wording and all the terms to remember made it difficult for me to understand. However I found myself not able to put this down.Rachel did a fantastic job with this debut novel!! Its only the second dragon book I've read. I really loved Seraphina, Prince Lucian and Princess Glisselda, Orma. The whole dragon storyline.

Truly amazing!!! You should read this, right now!!

I want the sequel admittedly!!

Pushing The Limits by Katie McGarry

Pushing The Limits by Katie McGarry
Released: July 31st 2012
Publisher: Harlequin Teen
Page Amount: 384, US Hardcover
Source: Netgalley

"I won't tell anyone, Echo. I promise." Noah tucked a curl behind my ear. It had been so long since someone touched me like he did. Why did it have to be Noah Hutchins? His dark brown eyes shifted to my covered arms. "You didn't do that-did you? It was done to you?" No one ever asked that question. They stared. They whispered. They laughed. But they never asked.

So wrong for each other...and yet so right.

No one knows what happened the night Echo Emerson went from popular girl with jock boyfriend to gossiped-about outsider with "freaky" scars on her arms. Even Echo can't remember the whole truth of that horrible night. All she knows is that she wants everything to go back to normal. But when Noah Hutchins, the smoking-hot, girl-using loner in the black leather jacket, explodes into her life with his tough attitude and surprising understanding, Echo's world shifts in ways she could never have imagined. They should have nothing in common. And with the secrets they both keep, being together is pretty much impossible.Yet the crazy attraction between them refuses to go away. And Echo has to ask herself just how far they can push the limits and what she'll risk for the one guy who might teach her how to love again."
-Information from Goodreads.com

My Thoughts:
Pushing The Limits is in told alternating chapters from main characters Echo Emersion and Noah Hutchins. Both dealing with their tormented pasts and trying to make the present and futures better. A chance meeting in the office, and after an rude comment about her name by Noah. Echo and Noah start up an unlikely friendship. They both start to open up about why they are seeing the school counselor Mrs.Collins. Echo is seeing her to help deal with the loss of her brother Aires, and a night she can’t remember due to the dramatic events.

They hatch a plan to distract Mrs. Collins to look into each other’s files. To gain the information they both need in order to have things change. Will scheming together they each discover they have developed feelings for one another. Although they are both scared to say something to the other one. They do start dating and things become out of control.

However at the end everything gets turned around. Echo learns more about the night her mother attacked her and is dealing with aftermath of learning the truth. Noah learns his brothers are in a good home and that he can have a role in their lives as well have the future he wants for himself and with Echo.

There are sad moments, happy moments, sweet moments, you will be in for quite a ride with this one. I loved Echo and Noah. I felt the pain for both of them. All the things they both overcame is amazing and inspiring.

What an amazing debut from Katie!! I look forward to reading more of her work in the future!!

She manages to disguise herself as a boy so thoroughly that she gains admittance to the palace military academy and quickly establishes herself as the most talented of the new knights-in-training. What she doesn't count on however, is just how hard it can be to maintain her secret over time--- not only does her womanhood become more difficult to conceal but so too does the growing force of her healing magic. And when only sorcery can save her friend, Prince Jonathan, from a fatal illness, Alanna faces the most difficult decision of her life: Should she use her Gift, thus revealing her true nature? or lose her dearest friend for the sake of her most cherished dreams?"
Information from the synopsis from the book

My Thoughts:
I've heard amazing things about Tamora Pierce's books. With that being said I was a bit nervous reading this with all the awesome things I heard. I was like you're not going to love it as much as a fellow book blogger and friends have. I was so wrong, Alanna is amazing!! She's a totally kick ass character and the world in Tortall I want to live there.

This is a medieval fantasy with this amazing female character who isn't afraid to go for what she wants. Even if she does have to dress up like a boy. And she wants to be a knight!!If  you haven't picked up this book yet GO for it!!

I really want the rest of the series, like yesterday!! Thanks to Misty at The Book Rat for recommending me this.

5/5 stars, Happy Reading, Ashley

A secret government agency has developed a drug called Revive that can bring people back from the dead, and Daisy Appleby, a test subject, has been Revived five times in fifteen years. When she meets Matt McKean, Daisy begins to question the moral implications of Revive, and she discovers the agency's true goals, she's at the center of something much larger---- and more sinister--- than she ever imagined."
-Information from Goodreads.com

My Thoughts:
I really loved this book. Daisy is one tough chick for surviving death 5 times and moving around. But when she comes to Omaha, Nebraska everything about herself and her world will be forever changed from brother  and sister Matt, and Audrey. Things change for the program as well.

This one is a roller coaster from the start. Couldn't put this down for a second. I wish there was another book to this. I would love too see where Daisy ends up next. And if her and Matt cross paths again...
Oh please I would love another book to this!!

All in all I really enjoyed it and plus the cover is pretty amazing!! 5/5 stars, Happy Reading, Ashley

" Don't even think of leaving...I will find you," he whispered.
Guaranteed.

Sara and her mom have a plan to finally escape Sara's abusive father. But when her mom doesn't show up as expected, Sara's terrified. Her father says she's on a business trip, but Sara knows he's lying. Her mom is missing--- and her dad had something do with it.

With each day that passes, Sara's more on edge. Her friends know that something's wrong, but she won't endanger anymore with her secret. And her dad growing increasingly violent, Sara must figure out what happened to her mom before its too late...for them both."
-Information from Goodreads.com

My Thoughts:
This was a difficult book for myself to read. Due to the subject matter of the storyline.  Being a person whom  had grown up in the same type of situation as Sara, I could relate to her fear and pain.  There were times I had to put the book down. I relived those memories reading Sara's account of what she was going through. Tracy did a wonderful job with writing this. My heart was broken throughout this tale.

Luckily at the end there is a happy ending for Sara and her mom. As well as my family.

This book isn't for the light hearted. This is a heartbreaking debut novel of 2012. I am looking forward to reading more books by Tracy in the future.

If only someone had warned Anna.

-Information from Goodreads.com

My Thoughts:
WOW, This isn't like the other angel books I have read. Sweet Evil pushes your buttons from the start. How I wish Kaidan and Anna had a chance to be together. I actually felt bad that they couldn't be.

This is a debut novel for 2012. And I must say what an amazing angelic debut it is!!

Cannot wait for book two that's if HarperTeen is smart and signs the rights. What are they waiting for? I need more Kaidan NOW!!

"Fifteen-year-old Isabelle Scott loves her life by the boardwalk on the supposed wrong side of the tracks in North Carolina. But when tragedy strikes, a social worker sends her to live with a long-lost uncle and his preppy privileged family. Isabelle is taken away from everything she’s ever known, and, unfortunately, inserting her into the glamorous lifestyle of Emerald Cove doesn’t go so well. Her cousin Mirabelle Monroe isn’t thrilled to share her life with an outsider, and, in addition to dealing with all the rumors and backstabbing that lurk beneath their classmates’ Southern charm, a secret is unfolding that will change both girls’ lives forever."
- Information from Goodreads.com

My Thoughts:

I have to be honest this is one of the books, that I judge it by the cover. From the cover I thought this would be a typical girly-girl story. Belles is so much more than. Its the story of Izzie Scott a girl from the wrong side of the tracks. Having her world turned up side down. To find something she never knew she had.

Read this book if you have the guts to do it!! I loved it. Cannot wait for Winter Belles, to see where Izzie and the Monroe's go next.

P.S. the ending was very shocking!!

But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves and herself while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.

- Information from Insurgent by Veronica Roth

My Thoughts:
I loved Divergent. I wasn't sure how the sequel could live up. I was proven wrong. Veronica has the amazing ability to keep you on the edge of your sit until the end. There were many times I didn't know what would become of Tris.

I don't want to reveal to much. But all I can say is I'm sitting here still trying to figure out the ending. I didn't see it coming. I look forward to the next installment in this amazing series!!

5/5 stars, Happy Reading, Ashley

"In a future world, Vampires reign. Humans are blood cattle. And one girl will search for the key to save humanity.

Allison Sekemoto survives in the Fringe, the outermost circle of a vampire city. By day, she and her crew scavenge for food. By night, any one of them could be eaten.

Some days, all that drives Allie is her hatred of them. The vampires who keep humans as blood cattle. Until the night Allie herself is attacked—and given the ultimate choice. Die… or become one of the monsters.

Faced with her own mortality, Allie becomes what she despises most. To survive, she must learn the rules of being immortal, including the most important: go long enough without human blood, and you will go mad.

Then Allie is forced to flee into the unknown, outside her city walls. There she joins a ragged band of humans who are seeking a legend—a possible cure to the disease that killed off most of humankind and created the rabids, the mindless creatures who threaten humans and vampires alike.

But it isn’t easy to pass for human. Especially not around Zeke, who might see past the monster inside her. And Allie soon must decide what—and who—is worth dying for."

-Information from Goodreads.com

My Thoughts:
This isn't your typical vampire story. For one the vampires are the ones in charge and treat the humans like bloodbags. The have what is called pets which governs over the registers. Making sure they give their blood when its required. There are also the unregistered who refuse to be marked by the vampire leaders. Allison (Allie) is an unregistered who has fought and stolen for everything she has in live which isn't a lot.One night Allie's fate is forever changed when she's attacked by the rabids and is left for die. She has a choice either die or become the very thing she loathes.

Allie is one kick ass female character. She deals with her new life while trying to forget her past.

This is by far my favorite vampire novel. Which isn't very shocking for me due to the fact of how much I adore Julie's The Iron Fey series.

I am looking forward to seeing where Allie goes in the future!

"a long, hot summer...

That's what Macy has to look forward to while her boyfriend, Jason, is away at Brain Camp. Days will be spent at a boring job in the library, evenings will be filled with vocabulary drills for the SATs, and spare time will be passed with her mother, the two of them sharing a silent grief at the traumatic loss of Macy's father.

But sometimes unexpected things can happen—things such as the catering job at Wish, with its fun-loving, chaotic crew. Or her sister's project of renovating the neglected beach house, awakening long-buried memories. Things such as meeting Wes, a boy with a past, a taste for Truth-telling, and an amazing artistic talent, the kind of boy who could turn any girl's world upside down. As Macy ventures out of her shell, she begins to wonder, Is it really better to be safe than sorry?"
-Information from Goodreads.com

My Thoughts:
I am a huge Sarah Dessen fan. With that being said I had high hopes for The Truth About Forever. Although it did take me a few chapters to get into the story line. I felt the feelings of the main character Macy Queen. The perfect good daughter of her parents. Her life is everything she wanted until the loss of her father changes everything. Macy starts to put on a mask, needing for her looks and personality to be perfect not only for her mother but to the outside world. So they don’t give her “the face”.

Not until she takes a job with the catering chaotic business of Wish. Does she start to want to change herself. Not be the “perfect daughter”, she’s always been. With her job at Wish she meets an interesting group of people. Including Wes, who will make her thing forever is possible.

Throughout the book Macy wishes she had grieved for her father. The day of his funeral the same way her sister did. That she could tell her mother how she truly feels about the loss of her father.

This is truly a heart breaking, humorous, light romance story. Something I feel we all could relate to.

4/5 stars, Hope you enjoyed my review, Happy Reading, Ashley

-Information Goodreads.com

My Thoughts:
I had mixed feelings going into this because I liked Unearthly, I didn't love it. I had the same experience with Hallowed. I do love books on the angel myths.

Anyways in Hallowed Clara is face with many life changing events. There are alot of twists and turns. You won't know what will happen next. Clara learns more about herself and who she truly is.

I love Tucker!! I will read the next one just to have more of a Tucker fix.

My Thoughts:

Brie loses her life by her heart literally breaking when her boyfriend Jacob dumps her.She is thrown into the afterlife and wanting to have her old life back. She meets Patrick, a guy who has been waiting for Brie. Although she doesn't remember him there is a clue the nightmare she has every year on the same day.
